Commodity Markets Council is a trade association whose membership brings commodity futures exchanges together with their industry counterparts. Mission CMC advocates open, competitive commerce by combining the expertise, knowledge and resources of its members to develop and support market-based policy. Our Focus CMC is the forum where exchanges and exchange users take a leadership role in addressing global market and risk management issues. The CMC supports:
- An open and competitive marketplace in exchange-based and other risk management products, and
- The self-regulatory structure of exchanges with minimal government interference.
The CMC addresses related industry issues focusing on agriculture, energy, finance, transportation, and infrastructure. To be effective we are focused on the issues and actions listed below in the 2008 Action Plan. 2008 Action Plan
- Prompt action by Congress to reauthorize the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC)
- Advocate for revision of Financial Accounting Standard 133 to allow hedging of non-financial components.
- Oppose any legislative or regulatory action to increase regulation of energy markets.
- Oppose any fees or taxes placed on transactions executed on US exchanges.
- Educate Congressional staff about market-based commerce.
- Lobby for market-based farm policy, particularly as impacts commodity markets.
- Promote regulatory parity for agriculture markets with the CFTC.
- Support an aggressive US trade liberalization agenda.
- Secure funding in the federal budget to improve our transportation infrastructure.
